Wrong number

I ordered my dad a woodworking tool for Christmas, and since then, I have been receiving woodworking catalogs at home. To cut down on the junk mail, I called today to have my address removed from the mailing list. The 1-800 number listed on every page of the catalog was not answered by a Woodturning operator, but by a woman's seductive voice telling me something about hot and horny girls. I quickly hung up. I had dialed the right number, but called again to make sure. This time I listened to the whole message to see if it would eventually take me to a catalog operator, but in the end, it just prompted me to enter my credit card number to hear nasty girls for $3.99 a minute. I was a bit confused.

I looked harder through the catalog and found another number(not 1-800) listed in smaller print in the back. This time a Woodturning operator answered. I asked the operator if she was aware that the 1-800 number did not reach Woodturning. She apologized with a tired voice, "I'm sorry ma'am, but there was an error in the printing of the catalog."

Here is my question: Was there really an honest error made in printing the catalog or was that a lame, practiced apology for something the company had intentionally done, knowing the catalog was reaching a primarily male audience?

Wow, I don't know if I would have thought of that. Yikes. I also don't know if I would have listened to the message the whole way through!

Hey, your comment identity options have changed, I hope I'm clicking the right one.

It must have been a mistake. Printing the wrong number on your catalog would hurt your woodworking business. Plus its probably illegal due to false advertising laws. I'm happy your blogging again.
