Silver River
I am discovering that water recreation is a satisfying alternative to the hiking that I wish Florida had. I went on a kayaking/canoe trip on the holiday last Monday with some folks from the Department of Romance Languages and Literature. We went to Silver River, which is approximately an hour's drive from Gainesville. The water is clear and cool, and there is nothing more relaxing than recreating in a gorgeous place. Sadly, we did not see any monkeys in the mix of turtles, birds, and alligators. (I guess this is the one place in Florida to see monkeys due to an accidental release on the part of a movie crew. )
I don't have much time to get away for Thanksgiving, but I have been inspired to plan a brief canoe trip with Kathleen over the holiday, thus continuing my tradition of Stove Top Stuffing prepared over a camp stove.

Looks fun Hannah, Watch out for the alligators :-) maybe they ate all the monkeys.
