Out for the Week

Last week I had a group of kids that brought my spirit down; it was the toughest group I've had to deal with. Three boys who were off the wall, took the other five off the wall with them, and no one ever wanted to listen to what I had to say. Sometimes I feel like the kids don't like field group that much, but then at the end of the week when they do evaluations, they actually write they had fun. These kids said the place was dumpy, the games we played were stupid, they didn't like having to listen to what I said, etc, and I somehow felt like I had failed.

I was ready for a change in scenery this week and opted to switch out to a site here in Groton, Massachusetts. It was raining the entirety of Tuesday and Wednesday, and it was tough to kid the kids excited about being outside. After getting completely soaked and cold on Tuesday, I tried the bag method yesterday that I acquired from other staff members: a plastic bag over the sock but inside the shoe. We had a four and half hour field group scheduled yesterday, and we stayed outside the entire time. I think the kids were only miserable at points, not the entire time. And my feet weren't too wet thanks to the temporary boots.

Today is beautiful and sunny, though, so we're all dry and happy. My kids are sweet, so it's turning out to be a good week.
