Help!

I think every blogger may have a post to plea for help and take advantage of the wisdom contained in their reader base. This is mine. I have an old computer with Windows 98 that won't accept my flash drive (a SanDisk Cruzer Mini). The computers in Africa did better than this. I thought about updating my system to XP, but I barely have enough space on the hard drive and wouldn't be able to ever put more files on the computer. The manufacturer only makes drivers for 98SE. I'm trying to make this computer hold out until I start grad school--what can I do? I'd really like to have the ability to use this computer with a flash drive.

So that is my minor freaking out of the past few days. I am trying to pack in order to leave early, early Thursday morning. I've decided I won't come back to Moscow in between my interview in Florida this weekend and my trip across the country. I'm just going to leave my car in Spokane all packed and head out from there on Monday morning, which means I've got to be all ready to go by tomorrow night. Yikes. Unfortunately, I can't take the Costco flat of clementines I bought last weekend because they will freeze in the car while I'm in warmer climes. The good news is that I have planned my itinerary more or less, and I get to see some friends along the way--hooray! I'm nervous about the interview, it sounds like an intense weekend. The entire day on Friday is filled with meetings with my prospective advisor(s), the graduate committee, and various other faculty and students, but there's not much I can do to prepare I think but be well-rested.

I don't think my internet access will be as regular while I'm at Nature's Classroom, so my blog may be less prolific in the coming months, but I'll try to update it when I can.

Hi Hannah, I have the same flash drive. It will not work under Windows 98 1st edition. You can upgrade to Win98SE and use the driver that came on the disk with the flash drive. Or you can updgrade to XP and it will work automatically without the driver on your CD. If you don't the hard-drive room to upgrade you can buy/get a new/used hard drive. But if you want my advice, just get a new computer. Any computer you buy now will have more than enough power to get you through grad school. I'm partial to Macs but thats just me.
