Whirling Salsa

The best part of dancing, of any type, is the spinning. Despite the differences in my two favorite types of dancing (contra and salsa), perhaps the spinning is what draws me to them both. I love the following the momentum and relaxing into where it leads me.

I went salsa dancing for the first time in Gainesville last night. My limbs were rusty, but what a great atmosphere with music that made it hard to stand still. Do you remember that scene in Titantic where Leo and Kate are dancing under the deck and twirling each other? It's a cheesy scene, but it depicts the feeling I love: looking at just one person (your partner) while the entirety of the room is a reeling blur and it feels like you are the only two people in the room with the music. It's a natural high. No wonder I want to keep going back.
